My First Attempt at Street Photography

I love the images, I love the light, and I love the stories…

There are photographers that have shared stories of how much they love doing street photography. While I have not done any myself before, this has intrigued me quite a bit! I love the images, I love the light, and I love the stories told by street photography. So I decided to try it out for myself!

I went to the streets of Buffalo and was ready to capture some images! Feelings of nervousness and anxiousness flowed as I grabbed my camera. I have only taken photos of people that wanted me to take their picture up to this point. I was about to take pictures of complete strangers as they live their lives! And this is the moment I stepped into the world of Buffalo Street Photography!

What I found were mostly empty streets…

Armed with my Canon, my 24mm “pancake” lens and of course, my mask – I set out to explore the streets of Buffalo.

What I found were mostly empty streets in downtown Buffalo. And it was in the afternoon, when there would normally be lots of people around. This is because of Covid19. Even though the streets were bare, part of me wished that I could just grab my zoom lens and go shoot from the shadows. That’s easy and I don’t have to get in people’s faces. But the other part of me was excited to be right in the middle of it! Now here I am taking pictures of people living their lives!

I was still able to find people and see their stories!

With the streets now quite empty compared to a non-pandemic normal, I was still able to find people and see their stories! The light in the area during this time was quite pleasing and I enjoyed the way the light played into the scenes on some of these images.

I spent a couple hours out on the street capturing images of people going about their business, and trying to do so without making a scene myself. It was great being out there and I will certainly be making another trip to do it again!

The people of Buffalo are resilient and strong…

When all was said and done, I definitely want to explore this style of story telling quite a bit more! The people of Buffalo are resilient and strong, and I want to share these stories with you! And of course, because everything happens so quick, I find this a great way to become more proficient in my skills.

Please take a look at these photos and let me know what you think! I would love your honest feedback, even if you are telling me you don’t like any of these images. I hope you do like these, but I would certainly appreciate all feedback!
